i took apart my H to replace a gear because it kicks out of fith gear. i replaced third and 4 on the counter shaft and fourth and fith on the top shaft with good used gears from wengers. i bought a new driveshaft and put it back together. it has a loud whining sound like something is rubbing. took it apart because i thought it might be a shift fork and it still does it. on closer inspection i found out that driveshaft 35 tooth gear is rubbing on a gear on the counter shaft. called up got a new driveshaft sent to me...same problem. the only thing i can think is wrong is that i did not use a gasket on the driveshaft housing. i used a liquid gasket seelent. do they make shims for the housing, should i double gasket it...or is their something i am missing completely?

any help would be much appreciated. Its getting close to hay time here and i really want to use this tractor to rake hay...pull a wagon, etc...

thanks James

It definitely has a gasket. I would either use an original, or make one out of hard .020" gasket stock. Here is the diagram from CaseIH website. JimN

I just put mine together about 2 weeks ago, had a rubbing also, when I pulled it back apart the front gear on the bottom shaft was not flat on the back side where it mates to the gear behind, I put it on a belt sander and put it back, no problems now, hope this helps.
