How hard to replace rod bearings in a Cub? Here is my problem. When the motor runs at normal or high RPM's it sounds fine. But when I lower the throttle so the motor is bearly idleing I can hear a knock in the motor on the carb side. Oil pressure is real good the needle stands right in the middle on low idle. Does this sound like a rod knock? What else could it be?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

El Toro may be correct on the wrist pin. Ifyou move the throttle while listening, and at some critical rpm it becomes intermittant, then goes away, I would also suspect a pin. They can run for a long long time wth a loose pin, but not a bad rod!. Do as El Toro suggests, and check the rod bearings with plastigauge. Adjusting the valves might also be a noise eliminator. You can plasti-gage the rods to see how much clearance you have. Take a good look at the rod journals to make sure they're still nice and smooth. You may be hearing a wrist pin that's too loose. Hal
