Hey ever one!! Today I got the cub to the house. Ever thing went ok 2 close calls but other then that it was good. The ladys husband let me drive one of his tractor. Now that is the eseyest thing ive ever driven. There is no stick all there is a is a low and high gear and a rpm lever in to foot peddels. 4wd its really cool. But any ways wile I was hear at the house I pulld my engine off the 41 A. My dad was some theres some thing on the crank im like dad it will come right off and he is like whatever its yours lol. So I chain the engine up and took out the bolts and it came right off and he like you are right once more. Now I need to pull the crank pulley off once I get a torch over hear. We tryd to start the cub and it woud hardley crank so Im like ill try a 12 volt and it crankd like crazy but still no spark so I took the plug out and the point off the mag and ran to town. And it will take 3 weeks just to get the plugs and thay say ill need to take off the mag and bring to them and thay will send it out and rebild it and it will be 250 or more and im like your crazy ill let you know. I can get the parts on the net and have some of my old friends do it for me. That is my day if any one has any tips or any thing do let me know lol. Thanks all

Don't be in a hurry to pull the mag. Did you try rubbing the old points with a piece of 320 wet or dry? I would bet money that mag will fire if you clean the points. Set the point gap at .013". Pour some ATF in the cylinders and hand crank the engine over. Don't be in a rush to get it running
you need to go slow. You can get the engine completely out of time if you just jerk the mag off. Then you would need to bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke. There's way to do it so you don't get it out of time. You need to look at the rotor and see where its pointing and then make a sketch of it. Very important. Then
don't move the engine while the mag is off.
When you reinstall the mag you turn the rotor to
same position that's on your sketch. Hal

Hey. I did sand the points and the plugs and when I pulld the point off and the cap I marked ever thing where it woud line up lol. And for pulling the mag there no way the thing is clicking and doing like it needs to. Like my mom told my dad if its not broke dont fix it lol. But ill see if I can get the parts tonight. Thanks

You should send an email to the MagMan in NY. He rebuilds mags for the men on the IH forum. He can give you a price on rebuilding your mag. Hal

hey how are you doing. I got a kit off the net with the points and plugs ever thing. So im gonna try that and see. I went back over to the guy I got the hand crank from and he has all kinds of stuff. He owns a old mill in town that is from the 1800s and it still wroks Well he cant find the book on the cub and he said go to the mill and tell the guy I siad you can go look for a book. The book is for a farmall engine that is on blocks that can power the hole place and it has the same mag in it as my cub and my A dose. So I got that and Im looking and I think I can put the points in. If not there is a guy I know and my friend knows that can fix it. He has a super c H M A Cub you name it he has it. But ed the guy that let me go to the mill said if that dont work just go back to the mill and take the mag off the engine. But I hate to do that sence it will close down the mill for a wile. Un less thay use the old steam engine. But any ways thanks for all the help you have gave me.

Once you have the new points and condenser installed pull the coil wire from the cap and hold it near a good ground on the engine. Have someone either crank the engine with the starter or hand crank it to see if you have a hot blue spark. If you do reinstall the coil wire. If you still don't have any fire pull the coil cover off and check those magnets with a screwdriver. They should attract that with some effort. Hal

If your mag is going to require a lot of work and expense you can convert your mag to a distributor.
This can be done without removing the mag from the engine. You would only use the points and condenser that's in the mag. Since you have battery start you would need to buy an automotive type coil and some auto electrical wire. You would need to buy an ignition switch too. Here's a picture of an IH farm tractor that has been converted. Just something to think about. Hal

Since you didn't have any fire from cleaning the points you may have a weak coil or the magnets in the magneto may have lost their magnetism. Here's a picture of an old Wico mag with the magnets exposed and they have lost their magnetism. The magnets creates the hot spark when they pass by the coil. Even with the impulse coupling not snapping you should see some fire. Hal
