I can here the chatter in the engine. I also, by the water boiling out think the head gasket is also blowed. What can be done, and if anything, what parts should I start getting ahold of, I am useing it to mow grass with a belly mower, and need it much at the current time. Thanks

Where are you located? Good cheap replacement engines are available. I know of 2 or 3 right off hand. All in good running condition.

Hey Big Dog -- I'm in south central Missouri and might be looking for a cub engine also. Haven't started on restoring the one I bought but I know for sure the engine needs a complete overhaul. How much can I get a good one for?

I'd start lookin' for a decent used rider lawn mower for now. Unless you're retired and have lots of free time, there's no way you're going to turn that tractor around and have it fixed before the grass needs mowing again.

If she's a-clanking and a-clattering, blowing air up into the radiator, it's gonna take more than an oil change to fix the problem. Probably a complete engine rebuild by the time all is said and done. You'll definitely want the crank sent out to be turned/polished.

Four days maybe five if the united pickel sucker is late. and that includes a bore and valve job.

You need to do some investigating before ordering any parts. Pull the head and drain the oil and look for metal particles in the oil. I would pull the oil pan and check the rod and main bearings to see if you have spun a bearing. If there's a spun bearing you will need to split the tractor. Then do a complete engine teardown.
