When the guy ran into the truck at the farm I noticed something. The wheels on the 140 are like on my Super A instead of the regular wheels like in the photo below. Has 16" tires on the rims and they are the loop kind like on the SA. On my SA they are 15".

So was this something that came on the 140's when they first came out and then they changed to the other wheels or is this something my Uncle did to the tractor? This is the older tractor with a diamond axle. I forget the date but I have it written down at the store (1968? maybe).

That 140 of yours is a high clear tractor and they come with a diamon shaped front axal. And some did have cast front wheels, i think they are called heavy duty. Your tractor looks more like a 1958, by 1968 they had the newer grill.

Erik,

This isnt my tractor, I guess I should have stated that. I just used the pic to show the wheels that I think should be on there verses the ones I have. This tractor is in the photo adds section for sale if anyone is interested.

Erik: This isn"t the first time I"ve heard what Erik is saying. If this is so, these cast wheels should have a date code later then 1957. If the casting date code is pre 1957, then your uncle must have changed them. The spindles and bearings are the same, thus it is an easy switch.

The last time I heard this 140 with cast wheel argument, it turns out the particular tractor had been changed by the customer. Personally I never seen a 140 with cast wheels, other than photos, thus I"m rather skeptical any where ever equiped that way from factory. They may have been sold new by a dealer with cast wheels.

Erik,

I been looking and I think you might be correct. Everone I see with the industrial axle has the cast wheels. Theres one in the photo ads section now that is an industrial and it has the same cast wheels. The 140 I have is an industrial and has the cast wheels.

This is one of those things that sticks in the back of my mind and just drives me nuts. lol

OK, its at the shop so Ill check it out in the next few days and see if I can see a casting date.

My Uncle liked to mess with the tractors so no telling what he did. Its just one of those things I never noticed until the wreck and the tie rod was bent and I got to inspecting it.

Come to find out too the weights I have on my SA was also in that 140 at one time.

Hugh, I got four of those bolts for mounting the 101 fertilizer unit on a Super A or 140. I met Sam Adams (he advertizes here at YT) in Canton, Texas at the Trade Days but he brought the wrong size bolts. I carried him one off our 140 and he kept it to match it. He sent them yesterday and they were the right ones and even the dot head ones to boot. Cost was $10 each but thats better than the $18 a piece Case IH wanted for them.
