For the first year I had my 51 M I had no leaks. After restoring, ( it sat dry for a winter) I started to have a small rear seal leak. Now after another winter with little action, the rear seal is leaking more. Was ready to split the tractor and install new rear seal when the auto parts guy said try this. Bars Leaks rear main seal snake oil. Stops r m leaks in less than 100 miles. I'll probaly not make a hundred this year but could run the tractor for several hours each day for a couple of days. Question: Any experience with this product good or Bad???

I used something like that in a car one time. It casued the relief valve in the oil pump to lock up and that caused the seal in the oil filter to blow out with in 3o sec. of starting the engine. Ended up costing me a couple hundred buck to get it fixed

Henry,

Allan is absolutely right , i'd like to add one note . While you have the seal out check the
seal surface on the crank, if it has a deep sharp groove either use a seal with a sleeve or take
the crank out and metal spray it with either a
hi nickel or a stainless spray.

I really don't think there is ANY type of oil that is going to change how the felt rear main seal works... a rubber type seal might expand or soften, but felt is felt is felt.

The way those "sealers" work is that they "expand" the seal. Kinda like dropping a piece of rubber in carb cleaner.

It will work really well..... ..... ..for awhile. Then, ya have to replace every darned seal in the engine because they all have been "doctored".

Think your first impulse was the best. :>)

What do you have to lose? If it helps great, if it does not then you are no further behind. Pour it in, pour a couple cold ones in yourself, and hope like hell. Dave
