I did a brief search and i am sure that i have seen this asked before. My SuperC has been running fine altho it hasn't ran more then 10 min. at a time for a while.Today it acted like it was missing had to choke and move throttle up to get it to go very good at all. Then it would die after a while and i would start it again and it would run for a while altho not very good.I took it back to the shed shut it off and when i came back gas was coming out of the carb.I guess i have a "stuck float?"How do i tell the make of the carb and any idea as to what it will cost to have it rebuilt?

If your carb bowl is warped or not level, flat it by holding a piece of emery cloth on a 2x6, & run the bowl on the abrasive by hand. Run 2 or 3 strokes, then check for flat. Continue until surface of bowl is level. AS far as the float level goes, you may have to go 2 or 3 times to get it right. It took 3 times on our carb to get it to stop blowing black smoke. This was from the setting that was given on the spec sheet. You'll do OK on the carb, just take your time & don't rush it.

It will say on the carb what kind it is. You can adjust the float and install the new kit yourself. It is a simple chore for a simple carb. The model of carb should be on the top on a disc or a tag mounted on one of the little screws that hold it together. You will need that to get the right kit. The carb should be a Carter, Zenith or Marvel Shebler

Sure you can. If you will get that IT-8 service manual it will walk you through with specs and eveything. Good for lots of other stuff to. You have to know which carb it is as the adjustments are different. Kits are available here on YT,IH TSC and good auto parts stores. You also need to know make of carb and model no. If you want one from IH dealor Call Brad at 1-888-824-0544.

I have been lookin on the net for some kits and i have run across economy, basic and complete. This tractor has been in the family since it was new and in the last 25 yrs i know nothing has been done to the carb,Would it be wise to get the complete kit?

Yes it would. It cost very little more to go first class.

After you take it off look on the top of housing on the tractor side of carb, beside the mixture screw, there is a small disk that will have numbers on it.

Georgeky i dug out my IH-8 shop manual and on page 29 they list the Supec gas and the Zenith has #67X7.Would that be the # or would there be several makes of Zenith carbs for a SuperC?Also the next page on the IH-8 manual doesnt apear to me to show a Superc carb, maybe they are similar to the ones shown.I guess the kit i get will have detailed instructions. Thanks for the help

Yes a good kit will have instructions with it.As for which carb, you have no way of knowing until you get it off. These are old and anything can happen. I took one off a 52 Super C the other day that is L48J. It didn't even fit someone had used smaller bolts because the holes were off by 1/8 of an inch. They used bolts with nuts on them. More than likely yours is 67X7, but I would make sure before buying the kit.
