I have a 460 utility and I'm wondering if the I&T shop manuals (IH-25) for the 460, 560, 606, 660, 2606, will have the 460 Utility info in it? I have heard that there is a separate owner/operators manual for the utilities. I see that the 00 and 50 series are all included in the IH-10 I&T (rowcrops and Utilities alike). I just drained the hyd oil (7.5 gals) slightly discolored and replaced with a new filter and 10 gallons of Hy-Tran Super? or supreme (don't recall the last word) and a new filter. the 2pt still wont lift on its own unless its at half throttle or more. It is Very touchy to get in the right position. I wish to use it to spread manure but am concerned about accidentally bumping the lift lever and causing damage to PTO shaft are these normally that reactive to slight movements of the control lever??

Hi Butch, Did you read about oldoakfarmalls 460
that had hydraulics problems? I think you may have a pump problem. You should connect a pressure gauge at the pump that is rated for at least 3000psi and see what that pressure is.
I don't see any pictures either. Try posting if you just get the red x you are getting close. It was in the high 80's on Friday. Hal

I have a 460 Hi Utility, the factory manuals plus the I&T manual. I think the drive trains and the hydraulics, for the purposes of diagnosis and repair are about the same regardless of whether or not it is a utility -- I just read the sections on the 460 and ignore the specific model. For a comprehensive diagnosis, you really need the IH manuals.

Rarely if ever will changing hydraulic oil cure a hydraulic problem. Usually if the fluid is THAT bad that it's the cause of the problem, the damage has already been done to the mechanicals.

Either way, it's nearly always a mechanical problem when the hydraulics do not behave as expected.

Don't get me wrong; it's a good idea to change it especially if it's badly contaminated or an unknown quantity in a new-to-you tractor.

You've either got a weak pump or a malfunctioning relief valve, or some other mechanical malfunction somewhere in your system.
