Hi There. I am going to look at my first tractor tomorrow. It is an IH724 with an 'eazon' loader. What kind of things should I be on the look out for.
Thanks for any help.

Hi Dave, there were no 724s in our area but there were 624s and 824s. These were very durable tractors. The 724 has a D239 German Diesel engine. This is same engine used in later years in the 574,674,684,695,4210. Great engine with a little maintenance will last a long time.

Dave: Those are one of the first German built IH imported into North America. I looked at one at a demonstration day way back when. I thought then they were a very akward tractor. Hard to get on and off, controls seemed very out of position compared to American built tractors. Here again, it's a case of what one get used to and familiar with a particular tractor. They may well have been a decent tractor.

I do remember they were hp priced well below North American Farmalls, however they didn't sell in very large numbers. After they had a few years on them the resale value was very low. Mechanics hated them, however much the same as users they never got to work on them much.

There I am blurting again. I thought you were asking about a 274 instead of a 724. I have never even seen a 724. Sorry.

The best thing about those is fuel economy. That little Jap engine is easy on fuel. I had one I bought new in 82 and you had to use the glow plugs to start it on a 100 degree day. I used it two years and went back to good old American power My C and Super C start below 0 with no help from any devices. They are fair tractors, but for my money I would take a Super A,100,130,140 over it any day. Keep in mind this is only my opinion.

Mornin George, Yep agreed, my Super A will pop off in the coldest of weather ! When you got 1 1/2' of snow in the drive, you need a tractor that will start :")

Not one Jap part on a Super A. I wasn't born yet, but I am not over Pearl Harbour. A few years ago I had to pay a big price to get an American made TV (Curtis Mathis) It works perfectly. I don't know if they still make them or not.
