Could someone tell me when International went to the worm gear type steering on the F-20/F-30 tractors. I know the early ones had the exposed steering like the regular and then they enclosed it in the "duckbill" style housing.

I didn't get an F-20, I got a regular. Where did you get it that I was in Walla Walla. Never been there. You must have me mixed up with someone else. As far as the questions on the F-20 steering, I am just trying to settle an argument.

It don't pay to argue with anybody. If you know you are right and the other guy thinks he is right, what is that hurting you?

Well Dan a friend of mine in Benton City sold a F-20 to an individual from western Oregon, whom came east from the valley to go to the VA hospital in Walla Walla. Was just wondering if maybe it was you that had bought his tractor since you mentioned that you just got your home,,,curious.:>)

Thanks;

If it has exposed gears and a 3 speed transmission it is a Farmall Regular. The early F20s had the covered gears (duckbill) and was changed to the worm gear at serial number FA4340 (May 1934)

Thanks, Howard.

I thought the earliest F-20's had the steering gear exposed. Late in 32 they enclosed them with the duckbill.

There was no production from April of 1934 until Jan of 1934. In late 1932 everyone was standing in the soup lines wishing they were building tractors.

Yeah, I got it home, got the right brake fixed. Can't get #1 spark plug out. Might have to pull the head. Will look at it today.

Been hauling a lot of scrap. Took in three old F-12 carcasses last week and got $185 for them. Lot more than trying to sell parts.

Will let you know what's going on with the Regular.

Using a oxy/acetlyene torch to quickley raise the temperature of the shell of the plug to near red heat three or four times (letting it cool to near ambient inbetween) can often cycle them into becomming loose. JimN

I have recently seen a Regular that had been "modernized?" by retrofitting an enclosed steer box/bolster to it. The serial numbers of Regulars are stamped into the left (sitting) frame rail near the front just before the radiator. F-20s (and F-30s) are also on the left side frame rail only back nearer the driver.
