I forgot to mention something I saw while going to my ranch house today.
In my area we harvest allot of crawfish, rice, grow sugarcane, etc and it seems this calls for high clearance tractors. I passed by a farm today where a guy was using a Farmall in his rice feild. It caught my eye because it was indeed a Farmall and it looked to be an M size too. Soon after another one came bounding over the levee farthest from the road like some giant red and brown rusty mudbug. Same kind, same model or whatever they are. They were'nt pretty and they needed paint jobs but they sure did boogie through the water and mud well! :) Pretty neat to see these old machines still earning their keep but what struck me as odd was that they were big like an M with a low angle steering shaft but looked like high clearance units and they had a funny cast looking upside down U shaped front axle with struts and the suckers had final drives like a A,SA,100 too!!!!! (:0 Pretty cool little machines!

This dude has a couple of big modern all wheel drive tractors as well as some modern JD's but he also has a bunch of these things as well. I counted at least 5 similar units, some for parts it looked, behind his barn with some other junk.

Are these some kind of conversion kits or a Hi-crop model or something. I may see if I can get one of his junkers from him. I probably wont use it if I can get one because of the hills and slopes on my place but man they sure do look neat and might be fun to play in the mud with!!!! :)

I wonder how many old Farmalls are still at work. From what I know of around here there is a bunch of them. Mostly here is Super As,100,130,140,C, Super C,200 and a few 230s to plow tobacco with. Almost every farm has at least one and several have 2 or three. I do know of a few Hs and Ms working as well. Some of the V models are worth a lot of money.

They are factory IH and called an MV. There used to be a lot of them in South Florida - down on the muck where they grow sugar cane. That is where I used to see them. Big U shaped front axles and chain drives inside the rear housings. mike

Same thing in sugar cane areas of South Louisana the majority of tractors old and new are high clearance.

yes they did make them but it would pretty hard to convert a regular m to a high crop 1 i think you would need the whole rear end

 THAT'S IT!!!!!! in reply to Pat-CT, 05-07-2007 04:17:40
That's exactly what he has a crapload of!!!!!

Same axle, same, rear end, etc.....just rusty. I live in Louisiana and it seems that this would be an ideal tractor for the stuff we do around here.

I hope I can get parts for this thing if I can snag one. :( Would all of the M parts interchange less the axle stuff?

250 would be a bargain for any V model, they have become quite collectable. Especially a Super MVD-TA or MDV-TA whichever is right. One brought over 40,000 in PA.
