My brother came home with an early A. There's no plate under the seat so where do we search next? It has a hand lift and I think it may make a good tractor for a belly mower--but lo and behold, no PTO! Can I add PTO from another A or just pass on the belly mower idea?

Engine and chassis serials matched until SN 201000, or the last 19000 tractors made the last year of production, 1947.

Sure you can add a pto from another tractor. Check under number one plug on the milled flat spot. Engine serial number is there, and on the early A's these numbers were the same, if not an early A, then they were at least close. If no number there, or it was a replacement engine. Check for casting dates. They are coded years, they will look like this: 3*16*J. The letter j for 1940. Post what you find and someone will tell you the year.
