45 H. what is the correct style of seat?
right now it has 300 style seat on it--definitely wrong. i have a seat off a 40 H i found on the rock pile that is the non shock absorber type (needs lots of tlc). when did they introduce the shock absorber style seat?
thanks

Except for the '39's and some very early 40's which had the two piece channel/rectangular tube frame seat, all H's and M's had the bent round tube type seat support with the seat having jute padding and dark gray colored canvas covering. This is the seat with the little tool box thing and the vertical coil spring on the mounting bracket. Soon after WWII the Monroe made seats with the tapered coil spring and the shock absorber in the back became available at most IH dealers(and some other color dealers too)as an aftermarket product. In 1948 the Monroe type seat started coming out on production IH H's and M's and they had a foam rubber padded seat with a silver canvas covering and a smaller shock absorber in front of the coil spring. This "nice" seat was not standard really but was a commonly provided option that apparently became standard because of it's general acceptance. The seat was not free to be tipped back over however like the old tube framed seats were, but on the later Super H's and Super MTA's most had the extra flip-over seat frame to allow the seat to be moved back or tipped over. These seats all came with the silver canvas covering....the common white and red vinyl coverings often seen were never a factory option on these seats.

Mike in Ca has shown the correct seat on that sharp old H. The seat in the 3rd picture was not an option. It came out in 48 There is another style with the long shock that was standard in between the two on 46 and 47s. Lots of them have been fitted with the later style seat on them.

I had a 1944 "H" and it had the shock-absorber inside the coiled spring at the back.

My 44 has the original round tube type seat on it. I don't remember ever seeing one with the cylinder insde the spring. Not to say there wasn't one, I just haven't seen one.

Thats a terrific shot of that H at the top of your entry. My 41 H had one of those types of seats on it which is the standard seat, but it was in bad shape,so I replaced it with the optional hydraulic seat, which is in your bottom picture.

Again, that is a striking picture you submitted,if thats your tractor, you want to be proud of it.

I had a '46, and I've looked at a '45, and a couple of '44's, and they all had the same kind of seat with that little tool pouch on the bent bar, like these:

I've also seen them with this kind of seat (on a '45 as shown) which was an upgraded option, I believe.

Hey! That's the same kind of seat that's on one of my M's. Is this the correct style? The other one has the spring.

Buying what. I haven't sold any Ms or M parts that I recall. I have sold some C and Super C parts. I have a few Engine parts if you need something.
