what year did they put the battery under the seat on a md? i bought it i just have to wait till the truck im gonna use is not busy. it has the old farmall steel logo on front like a m from 39-52. It also has a 9 speed tranny. i paid 2100 for it i think thats a really good price as you dont see too many around. i have only seen i in person and that was in the 90's. It says MD on the hood. I asked for s.n. but the guy dosent know alot about them. also i tried to explain the casting date system to him and asked if he would find one or two but he is real busy and hasent responded yet.

Yeah, 2100 is a good price, we got ours for 2300, I didn't think that was too bad either.

12V Battery under seat started with F28176. Before that the MD had one 6V under fuel tank and another 6V on the right side of seat. Info is from parts book TC-46 which covers all M's and Super M's from '39 to '54.

None of them. The Stage 2 supers or SMTA are the only ones with the battery box under the seat.

It defently has the batery under the seat, i have a stage 2 super h with the batery under the seat but i dont know much about the md. mabey it is a stage 2 super md but someone put the old md hood and grill on it. or it is a reg md and they put a super c bat box on ot like the stage 2 supers. im really interested in the serial number now. i would even settle for a cast code.

No MD came with battery under seat. IH did list conversion parts to put it under seat later. If I remember correct there were 2 different boxes or 2 different mounting types for box that mounted at right rear side of seat on originals.
