Prices on piston rings....Jeez!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I'm in need of a set of standard piston rings for the C-123 in my 100.

They are sold here for $72.34..... .....To me that's kind of ridiculous. I don't think I've ever paid more than $30.00 for a set of rings and that was for a big V-8. I would think that these in this little 4 cylinder wouldn't be over $14-$15.00???

Does ANYONE here have a low cost set for sale or know where I can pick up a set at a reasonable price?

Couple other places to try that I've had good luck in the past finding odd parts.

First, see if you can find one of the old-time family run automotive machine shops. When we lived in California there was one run by a couple of brothers who seemed to know every part in every engine ever made, and knew where to get them. Suprisingly enough, they were often actually cheaper than the parts houses.

Another place to try is an engine rebuilder/supply house. I haven't needed one since we've lived in Colorado, so can't give you a name, but in the past I've gotten parts for old Willys (continental) engines off the shelf.

Good luck,

Keith

Kelly, you need to look again. That is for one piston only. Multiply times four.

Its called supply and demand. If its a low demand thing its cost more if its a high demand thing its less. For instance a complete rebuild kit for a 350 Chev is only around $500 but its such a common engine theres a lot of demand for part so there cheap. If the engine isn't common like most tractor engines the supply is low so the price goes up

Go to Bates Corp and check out the price of rings for only one piston in my 450 diesel. Depending on which pistons it has they are over 60 for one and 90 for the other. This is only for one piston. I have bought several sets for a 123 and have never got them for 30 dollars. Call 1-888-824-0544 ask for Brad. He might save you a little.

Good Lord that is crazy!!!!! (:0

I'll tell you what, if I can't find them I'll see if I can match some up with an automotive piston ring set.

You know, as with allot of things mechanical I bet there are many interchangable parts out there that we could substitute in for the high priced parts we are stuck to choose from.

That ain't nothing. The main bearings for the 450 are 600. The rod bearings are 400. Brad said he could get me a complete kit for 2200 dollars. Now how High are those 123 rings? I also have a 350 diesel with the GD 193 Continental in it, and the kit I got for it was a bargain 1700.00. I hope not to have to do anything else to these. Somebody else can worry with them the next time. I have given thought to parting out the 450, but can't bring myself to do it.

DAYUM George!!!! (:0

Sorry to hear of that, guess I shouldn't feel too too bad about those prices. OUCH!

Is the engine in the 450 similar to any truck engines? Maybe parts will interchange?

I dought it. Since it is a semi diesel, but you never know it could be. You need to mic your pistons and ring groves to try and match up any other rings.

Automotive stores such as Napa can get the rings for you. Some even keep them in stock.

That is where I plan on checking tommorrow! I also have a book of makes and models that just happen to have piston sizes in them too. I should be able to find something close.

Good luck in finding automotive rings for your 123.I was looking for pistions that was bored 30 over. Finally found a piston but the top was too high and never did find a piston that was compatable for my 123.So I bit the bullet and paid the price for a rebuild kit in standard size.If you do find a set of rings ,let me know what and where you found them.
