My father had a normal 826 back in the seventies and considered it the best all over trac in his life.So I stumbled on the 4wd version by acc two days ago and bought it on spot, the tractor meter has 5500h on it and the engine sounds "nice"and doesnt smoke to much under load. The oldman who sold it had it sitting in a barn for15 years. As I recall MY FATHERS ENGINE DID RUN 10 000h without trubble,so maybe I can look forward to many acres plowing,But what should I look up for and be observant on futurevise, what are the signs on ware on these engines, maybe they where german????? ? My father cant tell he passed away a few year after his 826 2wd,many years ago.Is there anyone out there with experiance from tha 4wd transmission and what to expect from it.They where at least here very seldom, this is the first I ever seen. MH

They are exellent tractors, and the MFWD version is extremely rare. Hang onto that one. The transmission is identical to the 2wd version, just has a transfer case bolted to the left side. Main problem with most MFWD tractors that age is that it takes an acre to turn them around. Make sure your front hubs and front diff are full of oil and don't leak. The engine is a D-358, built at IH's factory in Germany. They will last over 10,000 hours if they have been maintained. The only weakness is the packings that seal the bottom of the cylinder sleeves to the block. They tend to rot out if the coolant is not changed on a regular basis, or will leak if the engine gets overheated. Many perfect running German diesels have been overhauled for this reason. Leave the tractor sit overnight, then just crack the oil pan drain plug loose. If there's antifreeze in the oil, it will have settled to the bottom and will come out before oil will.

Thanks a lot ,sounds like I bought myself a partly retired working pal, beeing courious does anyone knows how many 826 MFWD where made and did all come with turbo like mine. It also has a "cabin" that looks original, it could have been fitted comming to europe, since it has approvement from different european athoreties. do anyone know where to find fotos? It has two take off power axis in the rear with different standards one over the other the lower one is broken off, is it a big deal to replace?? Otherwise everything seems to be in working order, have just finished first 2 acres of test plowing. mh
