I have acquired a model la gas engine that hadn't run for 35 years. I got a operators manual and changed the oil cleaned the fuel tank and got it running. When it first started it would hit and then idle freely a couple turns and hit again after it ran like that for a while it acted rich and I adjusted the needle valve and it hits every stroke. Now that is how it runs. It runs good but is it supposed to hit every stroke or not?

I have one too. They are governed with a throttle. Hit & miss holds the exaust valve open to control speed.

These engines are fun projects to play with. You were lucky to get it running after it had sat still for that period of time. No, this is not a hit and miss engine.

The LA is not a Hit n' Miss. It is now running correctly
Have fun.
