Gentlemen

I am a long time reader first time poster. I recently bought a 1949 Farmall C, I have been reading all the postings on this forum and I must say I"ve had most of my questions answered already, but I have 2 additional questions. The numbers on my C are as follows. Model FC ser# is 35318. the engine Ser # is FCM 35726 G. My questions are 1. what does the M in FCM and G stand for. 2. Is this a 113 or 123 CID engine, I was told that the 123 could have been a substitution for the 113. is this true? Just want to know what i"ve got here before i start tearing into it.

I read in the book "Letter Series Farmalls" that these letters represented options such as high altitude, low altitude, diesel, gas, distilate and so on. I to have a 1949 C which is a fuel burning tractor. hope this helps.

The FCM means Farmall C Motor, A w-4 has serial number prefix WBH and engine has WBHM

That makes sence, but what about the G. Is this a factory code?

Brett

I live just outside of Woodstock. Are you from the Nackawic area. What kind of Farmall do you have? i"ve just started with mine, it was in rough shape when I got it. It ran rough but I"m hoping a new coat of paint and some TLC in the Engine department will fix the old girl.

Im from Zealand. We have an H, Super M, 2 Cub's and an 806D on the place. I also have a few IH collectables. There is a boat load of old letter series farmalls in this area, with just a few 06 series.

Hi Dave.I too am a Dave from NB,and I had a 50 Farmall C,WHICH STILL HAD THE ORIGINAL 113 PISTONS AND SLEEVES IN IT.It was more expensive for me to buy rings for the 113 pistons than it would have been to replace them and the sleeves with 123 parts. If your engines been overhauled,it likely has 123 pistons and sleeves in it.

I don't believe that there is a difference in the head gaskets, since the package claimed it was for 113,123,and I believe C135.

The C came with a 113 CID engine with 3" bore and 4" stroke. Some of them have been bored out to 3 1/8" bore making it a 123 CID which is the same as in the Super C. You won't know for sure until you pull the head. When I replaced the head gasket on one of my C's I found out that it had been bored out. It is hard to find a head gasket for a 123 CID C engine which is a thermosyphon system. The Super C water ports are much smaller than the C.

The head gaskets are the same for 113 or 123 ( ABC super A&C ) except it makes a difference if it has a water pump or not. The one with the smaller holes is used with the pump.

The head gasket that I got for the C (113 CID) had a smaller diameter opening for the cylinders. The one for the Super C (123 CID) had room for the 3 1/8" pistons but had the smaller water ports because of the water pump.
