I just brought home a f-20 serial number FA33191. I was wondering when it was built. I've seen 3 serial number charts and all are a little different. What is the difference between FA and TA prefix letters.

I have a 36 with s\n 56667 and it was gray. I lifted the center of the s\n tag With a pocket knife and used a flashlite and found gray under it. Also found gray behind mag under a little dirt and grease.

The tractors with a TA prefix used a bunch of leftover Farmall Regular parts in production. They ran for 600? and some units.

My book shows you have a 1936.

Is there any way to tell which month in 1936 it was built. I think prior to November 1 they were supposed to be painted grey. There is not enough paint left on this one to know for sure.

Any 1936 is painted gray. November was the end of the fiscal year for IH. Any tractors built after November of 1937 were actually 1938s. Your tractor came from the factory gray.

On my 10-20 there was not much paint on it either, but I did find some under greasy places like underneath. Look in halfway protected places and be carefull cleaning it off as you can easily take what little paint off that might be there.
