Bought this 460 U today. I need lots of info. First problem, runs a little rough. Oil is runny with what smells like gasoline in it. Sed bowl clean, Tank looks really clean. I know very little about carbs but have mecanical knowledge. Would be willing to learn from all of you. Now that I have a red tractor of my own I will be asking lots around here!

Congrats, You have a real useful tractor there. It looks alot better than the 460U I bought a couple months ago. I notice yours has spin out wheels like mine. The first place I would look for gas mixing with the oil is the govener seals, like old said. You have probably already changed the oil and now you can keep an eye on the level and see where it goes. I don;t think a little gas in the oil will hurt the engine(for testing purposes) if its not doing heavy work. They used to dilute oil with gas to start military vehicles in cold weather, then it would vaporize as the vehicle warmed up. It does sound like you need to clean the carb and reset the mixture, its probably running to rich anyway. I usually disconnect the air cleaner when you check the mixture, in case the air cleaner is clogged and that is enriching it.

Don't run it much if any if the oil smells like gas or you could find your self rebuilding the engine fast. Always shut off the gas at the sediment bowl when you park it. Most likely the gas gets into the oil by either the float not working as it should or the float needle not closeing as it should. Gas beleive it or not will go up hill into the engine then down into the oil if the carb flaot/needle isn't doing its job right. Also another place it can get there is by way of the govinor tube but again thats because of a float problem
