I have a 12 volt negative ground electrical system on my 300U. It used to work fine but now occassionally the system won't show charge. If I rev up the tractor some and tap the voltage regulator a couple of times it will eventually charge. Anybody know if there is something I can clean, adjust, etc or is it just getting ready to die and I will need a new one. Seems like I have to buy a new one every 3-4 years.

Remove the cover (may require removing rivets) and clean up all electrical contacts with a needle file, or flexstone point file. Don't adjust anything, and clean out all grit. Re assemble, and give it a try. The cover needs to be on to assure corect output. JimN

Don't forget to check that your regulator is grounded (electrically connected to the tractor frame). That's probably the most important connection, and it's easy to forget about it.
