it has to make ya wonder just how greedy big companies can get. have had 2 long time tractor dealers within 15 miles of my area in pa. and in the last few weeks john deere has pulled both of thier franchises. they sold the small line of garden and lawn tractors, mowers, snow blowers and the bit larger tractors up to around 30 or 40 hp. with belly mowers, loaders, and small backhoes. thier service and parts shops were a-1. just so happens that last fall a home depo was built within 8 miles of the one dealer and now another home depo is being built within 10 miles of the other dealer. so here we go, 2 well liked business`s with long term respect to the community are being thumbed under all in the name of greed ! would like to see home depo sponsor little leagues and give all the support these 2 dealers have given the comunities in all ways over the last 50 years! not gonna hold my breath!! "hey home depo, this jd i just bought of ya won`t start??",,,,, ,,,"duh, heres a number you have to call sir ! "

The big box stores thrive and knock out the little guys because thats where we all go. I personally do NOT go to Walmart or Home Depot, for any reason. I will gladly spend a few $ extra at a smaller store. If people quit flocking to these big outlets like herded sheep, things may change. I know around here Mimbach Fleet Supply, and Mills Fleetfarm Are about the only places I shop. If they sold beer and milk I'd have it made, I dont care if it cost a bit more. I will always remember the young lad at "that" store. I went to the lawn and garden area and asked if they carried them garden weasels. He thought about it and said" I dont think we carry that yet, is it for Nintendo or or what?", What!! At Mimbach , even the checkout girls know what , how , and why. Theyre better looking too!

Sounds more like John Deere is the issue then Home Depot. Why would anyone buy a franchise that has no rights?

I have seen what Wall Mart, Home Depot and other big box or catagory killer stores do. Most of the traditional grocery stores, hardware, lumberyards, florists, all get run out of business. About all thats left in most downtowns Antique stores and a few resturants.

It is my understanding that the JD stuff sold at the stores like HD is made much cheaper than what they sell at the dealers.. I saw what happened when JD bought Homelite (I did a lot of tooling work for Homelite)... JD moved it all to Mexico, The Homlite name is back, but it is just being used on things made by Ryobi..
