The other day I went to the International Parts Dealer for an oil filter for my 1950 H. Was about to hand the guy a $5.00 when he told me my bill was $12.50, so why did the price of filters triple? Last year I bought the same filter from the same place and my bill was something like $4.50 -John

Guys, our small mfg. business is paying considerably more for anything with metal in it these days. For example, stainless steel has more than doubled in the past two years. I'd say the folks still charging $5 are selling old inventory. They will surely reprice it the next time they buy the next batch of that item. If you have a place selling filters for a low price, you may want to load up and get three or four because we'll not likely see those low prices again.

The global economy has arrived and with the folks in India, China, Malaysia and Indonesia now buying cars and building houses, all basic materials (steel, concrete, copper) are going up in price because of the demand. Our raw material costs for our products went up 15% last year and are still headed up this year.

Better load up on those $5 filters, I'd say.

Theres a number of reason prices are going up. 1 is the price of fuel. 2 the price of scrap iron. 3 the amount of profit a place wants to make. Now that I said that shop around but remember if you have to drive 10 miles to save a buck your wasteing your money because it will cost you 3 to drive that extra 10 miles

I just bought an oil filter for my 1947 Farmall H at the CaseIH dealer, it was just a little over $5. I think that dealer is ripping you off. I got a price quote from a dealer for Farmall H water pump bearings, CaseIH wanted $84 EACH!! Forget that!!! I got them from NAPA for $16 each!

You need to watch NAPA prices too . We needed 18 bearings for a rebuild on a rolling basket , The IH dealer had 12 for 6.49 each , The JD dealer had 3 for 9.87 , NAPA had the other 3 but they wanted 19.95 . They were the same Timken bearings .

It pays to shop around. Try E.B. Atmus & Co. at 1-800-666-4551 or 1-800-666-6761 for bearings.

Us poor A$$ farmers around here ain't cashing in on nothing. It cost 60 bucks to fill up an M these days. If it is pulling hard that won't last till 5 o,clock I stopped at a local store and put 83 dollars worh of fuel in my 666 yesterday. It use to be cheaper to have it delivered to the farm. What happened to that?
