What should a voltage reading be? I'm trying to determine if my 6-volt generator is working OK. Also, how do I check -- which generator terminal(s) do I use with my meter?

I looked at my 12 volt generator and it is the F terminal. I have my hour meter connected to that terminal, it only has voltage when the engine is running. Hal

You can check your battery's charging voltage at the battery using a volt meter set on dc voltage.
You should be getting from 7-7.25 volts at the battery with the engine at 1/2-3/4 throttle.

I need to look at my generator, but I think you can measure at the generator on the F field terminal. Put the red lead from your meter on the F terminal and the other lead to a good ground. I will go look to make sure and post back shortly. Hal

Do you still have the original if so take off the cover and clean the points with a thin #2 FLEXSTONE or thin file made for this purpose. Do not change any settings. You will find the thing will charge just like it always did.I am assuming it it is not burnt.Regular point files are about .050 as you want one of the two I mentioned which run about .015to .020 of an inch.FLEXSTONES come in 120 grit.I think CAL VAN may still have them in there inventory. They were made by RIMAC which was RINCK-McILWAINE,INC. Borg Warner has voltage regulators. You could check with your Carquest store to see if they have one in stock. You will need the generator number too. They used 4 different DR generators.
They don't list a regulator for generator 1100055.
The BW regulator numbers are R193 and R195 and your local NAPA store may be able to cross-reference these numbers too. Hal
