It ain't that hard in reply to donald schnupper, 04-27-2007 18:19:11
You do have to split the tractor. I use an engine hoist and some concrete blocks stacked up with a block of wood on top of those. The easiest way is to disconnect the air intake to the carb and the fuel line. Then take the oil pressure gauage and water temp gauges out. Then you can split the tractor by blocking it up under the clutch housing, make sure you take the clutch out. Use the engine stand towards the rear end of the motor, take the motor and front end out in one piece. I did this by myself in one day. My front end is a single wheel tricycle si I had to balance it out once it was apart, that was a little tricky.

yup, not real way around splitting the tractor. Like them FWD autos, u havfta pull the motor (or drop the tranny, and pulling them together is just easier on alot of cars then dropping the tranny) to change the rear main, it sucks, but its life.

You have to split the tractor, remove the flywheel and oil pan. There is a simple 2 piece retainer that holds the felt seals and has some gaskets that will also need to be replaced.
