Looks like your doing such a good job putting up that fence you should come down here and put up some fence for me. That another thing I need to see if I can get done this year after I get to hay barn done that is.

Yep, that"s how my dad always did it, only he always pulled on the fence with the H in reverse. Said with the tractor in reverse, you had less traction, and the rear wheels would spin out before you could do any damage to the wire.

He was right! in reply to RustyFarmall, 04-26-2007 14:22:55
This is certainly true with the self-cleaning lugs used on all modern tractor tires.

I don"t think this was true of the old-fashioned lugs on steel-wheeled F-10s, John Deere As, etc.

When someone asks you to pull them out of the mud with your tractor, don"t try it in reverse! The lugs won"t shed mud and the wheel will become slick VERY quickly.

I once pulled out a VERY stuck Ford 8N which had becomed bogged when the owner tried to pull out his little Toyota truck backwards.

I have stretched many miles of woven wire with various old Farmalls. I have a unroller with built in stretcher to fit 2 or 3 poit hitches. I have also stretched lots of wire with a chain and pole of one type or another, have even used the spud bar to tie wire to. Two oak 2x4s bolted together will work very well to stretch wire and you won't have to tie and untie to that steel post.
