The Exhaust pipe flange that bolts on top of the manifold was missing when I bought this tractor. The exhaust pipe was jammed into the hole in the manifold. This is a C135 engine with the exhaust out the top. The two bolts that held the flange where still there, rusted tight and frozen. Two weeks of WD 40 and a lot of patience got them out without breaking them. Has anyone else had to replace this part? Any ideas would be welcome. The two bolts that held the flange are 3 5/8 inches apart center to center. Thanks

I converted my 2444 from underslung exhaust to verticle because the muffler was alway in the way. I removed the flange\elbow and threaded the manifold to accept a new pipe. 1 1/2 inch NPT.

The 2444 has the same flange but the pipe is threaded done in and the flange is not used on the 444/2444.
You could cut out a flange and weld a pipe nipple to it....

I have the head and manifold now sitting on the workbench. The exhaust opening is approx. 1 7/8 across and it appears to be threaded. The threads are almost gone from the heat of the exhaust hitting them. Does anyone know if the 2404 404 exhaust pipe was threaded into the manifold?

Sounds like 1-1/2" NPT thread to me. 1-1/2" is the rough inside dimension of the pipe. Outside it is close to 1-7/8". You may find that the threads are just dirty with carbon and soot if you chase them with a 1-1/2" NPT tap.

I think so, the 2444 is. Don't have my IT manual here here though. I had to retap / chase threads on my 2444 with a honkin big tap. then I used a conduit nut on the stack to keep it snug and non wobbly.

Local machine shop folks said they had seen this in the past. The pipe threads into the manifold. They will clean the threads and put in a new piece of pipe. I'll never know why there where two bolts screwed into the manifold flange. Thanks for the help!

The two bolts are to fasten the cast elbow for under slung exhaust.
