Some good and some bad

Well, not too bad... but not great.

Good: I joined the IHC Chapter 14. Nice people, and already helping me find an H.

Bad: I had a money set back, and had to use my tractor money to pull me out. So, now I have a budget of zero. When push came to shove, my kids eating and safety (We were near broke and needed tires and food) came first. No surprise there.

So, looks like I'm just going to be a by-stander for a while till I can find some money again.

On another good note, I used the little bit left over and am finishing my garage. So, when I do finally buy an H I'll have a home to park it.

I imagine I won't be posting much until I'm back in the game. No point to, really, since I'm the one always asking, and don't ever have an answer. So, take care, and I'll pop in from time to time.

OT a little bit: I hate how it seems everyone in maryland hates everybody else. It really is a nice place with a lot of good people, well not in the city anyway.

Anyway, good luck mike thanks for what you do, and time and patience always gets you what you want... especially for the right price.

You are correct in saying that the IP address is for the MD Dept of Trans. But you may not be aware that over 1,000 computers are routed through this server, and they ALL use the same IP address. I am sure that there is more than one MD Dept. of Trans. employee that does visit this site, and he/she could be posting replies under any given nickname. I do not like to hear of this type of conduct by employees. We do have the means to search our own system to find out what computer was used to create this message, and who was logged onto it at the time. If employees are honest and follow the rules they are required to maintain a log of all web sites that they visit. Please keep in mind all employees are like this one that made the rude reply on this site.

Mike, you are a thoughtful and cautious guy with the right priorities, just what you need to be with a family to support on an airedale"s wage. I get a lot out of your posts and the responses, I usually don"t know enough to phrase the questions, and I find your enthusiasm infectious. As for someone joking that someone in the U. S. Navy doesn"t want to travel, well, I guess I had to laugh, because that level of stress is behind me, I heard plenty worse in the airports during my service. I know that something will come up.

Mike, I'm unsure if you are on permanent shore duty or just hoping you can stay put (Home wise) when you rotate back to sea duty. After my 30 year career in the Navy, I'm glad I waited until I retired and permanently settled before I started to play with tractors again. Think ahead to storage charges if you have to move. It's no fun giving up something you have spent a gazillion hours on and untold $'s when your next duty station is thousands of miles away. Last time I looked, the military does not ship tractors as personal conveyance. Joining Chapter 14 was a great idea as you can learn much from other members. Don't give up on your dreams of that restored Farmall but do as you are and ensure your family is taken care of first.

Yeah, thought about that ahead of time. My BIL has a farm 4 hours north. It's where I kept my first '46... it's actually still sitting there. If I do have to move, he said I could keep whatever I have up there.

If the '46 with the combine wheels&factory wide front is still available I would resto it. That would be a NEAT lookin' H. Different than a "run-of-the-mill" H. Also it sounds like he'd be willing to keep it for you till you have the time, money, and place to work on it. It didn't look like a money pit to me....Besides, I think I have all the money pits!

Mike, I understand where you are coming from. I to have been in the military for 21 years and I didn't join to get rich. It took me till I was 37 till I could afford my first tractor. Take comfort in the fact that you are a part of something bigger and your day will come. I have been to California and know how far the the paycheck doesn't go there. In true farmer fashion, you are taking care of that most important to you, I have done the same in the past. No shame in that. Will keep my eyes open for a fixer upper in your area for you, just be patient, it will come. Good Luck.

Dear Mike,
Please ignore the post below that implies fault. We know better. I will give you a suggestion that will (if taken up on) fundamentally change your definition of reality without drugs.

Attend the meetings of your chapter, and arrange to help some of the members as a helper/extra hand, on their projects. Not only will you make fundamental friends, but they will educate you in the Farmall Way. JimN

Tractors are often used to pull people out of bad situations. Sounds like your H earned its keep.

Don't quit fantasizing and keep asking questions.

hi mike.

Kinda know the feeling. People say I have money, but they are in certificates and the stock market for retirement. Not like I'd pull it out for investment in a tractor since I dont own a farm. Seen a real nice superM here in NW ohio for sell. They wanted a bit much tho and it is far away, and it is an M, heh. Anyways good luck finding one, hope ya find one in good shape for cheap. I enjoy hearing about your search!! I see tractor every now and then and might start posting them in the classified to help the owners out. Always nice to see one getting sold to someone who wants one. Good luck man.

I thought about joining the ih chapter here, but I find it hard spending $15 on most things as it is, heh.

Mike that sucks! :( I'm so sorry to hear of that, could you email me when you get the chance. I will contnue to search and want to keep in touch in case I find something.

How far are you willing to travel and in what kind of condition? I think I can probably find you a basket case or a good solid one to restore. I can't believe that no one here knows where you can find one????? :-/

How bout those two in Texas you showed me? Are they too far for you?

Traveling has been a money issue more than anything. I don't see the point of traveling to Texas when that will add $1000 to my total price just in gas.
As far as condition, I'm taking the advice given here and want to get something a little more mechanically sound, rather than a basket case that will require a total overhaul beyond my abilities.

In reply to the above: Your a freak'in a*shole whoever you are.

Mike, email me. If I find something I might be able to deliver to Arizona. I have family there in scottsdale, phoenix, oak creek canyon, etc. Most of my fathers side lives there and I could use delivering a tractor as an excuse to travel and visit. :)

That's pretty brave of you to throw an insult up, and not have the balls to use your real nickname. So, you can go pi$$ in the wind, whoever you are.

I have a friend that never married, lives with his parents, has lots of farm land and collecting tractors is his hobby. He travels all over the US and has had 50-75 tractors at some times. But that is his life. He can travel anywere because of no family commitments and plenty of dough. But that is a choice he made. Super nice guy. But some of us chose to have kids. Cost tons of dough. Also you chose to serve your country and 99% of us admire you and thank you for protecting what we all belive in. An H will show up some day. Dont stop checking in on this board!! And how dare someone critize your situation when they dont know all the details. I agree Pi$$ on em.
