Are these manuals worth having? I see them on ebay all the time and wondered if they would be of any help on my H projects.

I have the owners, parts & serviceman's manuals, do I need any others to help me out?

Randy

Randy: I've had a number of these over the years, I don't ever recall any of them being called Training Manuals, mine were just Service Manuals. I had complete sets for my 560, 656 and 1066. Those 3, made a stack close to 6" high, and were separate books for various components as George and CNKS suggest.

I have one here I picked up up last year at a antique tractor show flea market. It's called CHASSIS 140 tractor, basically shows how to separate each component and assembly of transmission, final drives, hydraulics, pto and electrical. I know there is another book that covers engine, cooling, etc. I expect there is one for fast hitch as well.

I can tell you this, the direction in this manual for installing a new kit in the touch control hydraulics is far superior to the IT manual, and I like it better than directions that come with the kit.

It gives a complete breakdown of the 4 changes, by serial number, made to 140 electrical system over the years, with a complete diagram for each.

In my opinion, the Blue Ribbon Service Manuals are far superior to anything on the market, but you must have the complete set. I remember when I got them for my 1066 in 1975, thinking it was big bucks, and it was back then. I forget the exact figure, but remember telling the dealer it would have been a better deal than the damn 4 cycle lawn mower he loaded on my pickup the day I paid him for the 1066.

As CNKS said the service manuals have info in them that is not in other manuals. IT manuals will sometimes refer you to the dealor on certain things. The Blue Ribbon manuals will cover the specific areas. I have several ranging from injection pumps to power steeering and hydra touch units, torque amplifier and so on. Lots of dealors used these.

There is a "Serviceman's Guide" and a "Service Manual". The Service Manual is more detailed. The Blue Ribbon manuals are specific to a specific part, such as the clutch or torque amplifier and give more detail than the service manual. As to quality of print and diagrams, Binder Books has the best quality, although I have a couple that aren't all that great.

They are OK manuals. I bought one on eBay and it did not have as much info as I expected and it was a very very poor reprint. Andy.

My H has blue ribbon decals on the sides of the grill, I would love to have one, just to have really (no real purpose but good reading) But then again I would love to have anything that has to do with old things with engines.
