IH 444 hydraulic pump leaking?

I"ve gotten some good advice from you guys in the past so here"s another question. My engine oil rises and my hydraulic fluid goes down so I figure the shaft seal on the hydraulic pump is leaking fluid into the engine. Unfortunately, new pumps are pretty pricey and I can"t find a source for a rebuild kit on the original pump.
I"m thinking if I can get the pump apart, I can probably match up the seal somewhere and save a bunch of money (like $5.oo vs $500.00). Has anyone ever done this on my particular engine? It is a diesel 154 inch. Thanks in advance.

From experience-take the defective seal with you when you go to the IH-Case dealer. Part numbers have changed but parts are still available. This from getting parts for a 424D.

There are I think 4 different possible pumps on the 444/2444/ a 9.5 ? gal thompson or Cessna and a 12.5 cessna or thompson. or so my parts listing shows....
if my memory is correct, don't have my book with me now.

The shaft on that pump may have a groove worn from the old seal rubbing that area. You may need
a speedi-sleeve to cover the worn area on the shaft and a new seal. I don't have a parts breakdown on the pump used on the 444, but here's one used on the C, Super A's and Super C's. Hal
PS: NAPA auto parts may have the speedi-sleeve and seal.

Thanks, I still have to get the right puller to get the gear off. It's fairly tight between the back of the gear and the housing. Once I have the pump apart I can determine if there is any shaft wear.
