I just started working on my 48 Cub that had been setting for at least 5 years. Can anyone tell me how to check the fluid level in the transmission and what type fluid shoud I use in the transmission.

Yes Roger, fill the hydraulics through the plug on the side until it is up to the lip of the fill plug. Replace the plug and work the hydrauliclever back and forth 10-12 times. Remove the plug and top off. Do not try the kerosene trick here. Use Hy-tran or Hy-Tran Ultra in the hydraulic unit.

There is a good chance you have water in there. Pull the drain plug in the bottom front part of the transmission to drain. Put the plug back in and add some kerosene. Drive it around a little and drain again. Put the plug back in and take a look on the left side of the transmission(sitting on the tractor). You will see a small square head plug. Stop filling the transmission with 90 Wt. gear oil when it starts to run out of that hole. Replace the little plug and you are done.

OK the small plug I use to check level is on the left bottom of the box the shifter sits on top of correct? The fill plug is just behind the shifter on top of the housing correct? I just want to make sure I am looking at the correct plugs.

Thanks One more question The hydrolic system works but I have a couple of small leaks to fix. Once I have them fixed I add Hydrolic fluid until it comes out the filler hole is that correct and what type fluid do I use?
