Sorry I didn"t reply sooner, been out looking at frozen wheat. The washing soda I bought came from a local grocery store. It is Arm and Hammer Brand. Not expensive. I did use way too much but it"s really cookin". My Super H parts arer not real rusty but the paint just falls off. Doing the gas tank supports, etc. Really cleans out the croooks and crannys. I brush with a plastic brush, rinse in water, scotchbrite pads, dry, degrease and prime.

Is that what used to be called 'Sal Soda'? Was real good to clean radiators. Sometimes so bad nothing would come out the drain. Put the little box maybe 12 or 16 oz. in and run for 2 hours, clean as a whistle.

As I have learned this week, the stuff has several names including washing soda, soda ash etc...

the official name is sodium carbonate...and you must be careful to distinguish that from sodium bi-carbonate that is in the Arm and Hammer box at the grocery store.

Go to the pool supply department in Lowes if you have them in your area. "Aqua Chem Ph add" is one trade name of the stuff. I am also told you can get it at farm supply as pot ash in 50 pound bags.

Not Pot Ash!! That is different and would I think be potassium carbonate. Soda ash is Sodium carbonate. I think either would work for the electrolysis you are talking about. The farm Co-op here has the soda ash in 50 lb bags.

There's a difference between baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and washing soda (sodium carbonate). Arm & Hammer makes both kinds. You can find washing soda at the grocery store in the laundry detergent aisle.

I haven't checked it out myself, but there was a posting on another site that some of the Ph adjusting products for swimming pools are also sodium carbonate.
