Hi guys, i have been reading the few posts about the 354643R11, Transmission Oiler gear. The one in my super A is missing some teeth. In one of the posts it talks about this gear only being needed when the pto is used. I know the best thing is to replace it which I will do. What I need to know is would it hurt my super a using the cultivators this growing season, nothing to do with the pto, and save the cracking the case and changing out of the oiler gear for next winter. What are the general thoughts on this? Will it hurt anything or not? Thanks guys.

See my post above. Some additional comments here. The oiler gear is for belt work. It's not needed for the pto when the tractor is in gear. The bottom shaft in the transmission does not turn when the transmission is in neutral. The gears on the bottom shaft are the ones that run in the oil and sling the oil up the the top gears and to the bearings. The oiler gear is on the bottom shaft, but has a bushing and runs on a smooth place on the shaft (not splined to the shaft like the other bottom shaft gears) The oiler meshes with the reverse idler which runs all the time, even when the transmission is in neutral. Thus the oiler slings oil up to lube the bearings and other parts (such as the PTO assembly)when the transmission is in neutral. The larger tractors do not have the oiler gear because the top shaft of the transmission is split with a pilot bearing. The transmission input gear runs all the time the clutch is engaged and the bottom shaft runs all the time, so the bottom gears sling oil up to lubricate things even when the transmission is in neutral.
