Is This a Super C Block?

I have a block that I think is a SC block but I want to be sure before I put it in the photo ads.
The top front is stamped:

FCM HA5G
72636

The casting number is 251068-R1. This is what has me wondering, the parts manual has the part number as 366204 R3. Should the casting and part numbers match? It has the opening for the hydraulic pump so I think it is a SC block.

Thanks

Jack

Regarding the question below, the original head had a P/N of 251172R1 and the new one is 251172R2 and there is a big "L" underneath it. Also, why would the head have anything to do with the hydraulics? I thought the hydro pump was driven by the distributor shaft.

I just replaced the head on my C with a redone one from Bates. The new head had a threaded hole with a plug in it and on the rear end there was a thing that looked like a hole sealing mechanisim made of metal. Neither of these were on the original head. I was wondering what they were about. Thanks- DaveK

That "thing that looked like a hole sealing mechanisim made of metal" is probably a tattletale sensor. They will come off if the engine gets overheated. Shops install them to make to protect themselves from bogus warranty claims.

Hey Jack, the old C block has a hydraulic pump too, you are thinking about the A and B block that does not.

I went and checked both my Cs and the number on them is 251069R1. They are both original to the tractors they are in. They are both 1949 models. I have another C block that is a 48 and it has the same number on it. There is FCM----G on all three and no HA5 on any of them. Is it possible that this is a combine engine or something else. Or maybe off a hay baler or other equipment. It will still fit any of the small farmalls.

Jack: Your engine block is Farmall C not SC. I'm not familiar with part number 251068 R1, however the 5 digit serial number is C. SC were all 6 digit, and came new with engine part number 354898 R1.

366204 R3 was not the original SC block either, you must have a parts book for a replacement block as that block would not have been cast until 1957-58.

I believe the HA is a high altitude option which really deals with the head. Would a combine or other implement engine have the hydraulic pump opening as this one does, or is this a late C block during the transition to the SC?

Thanks for the info guys.

Jack

Jack: Nat said it, all Farmall Cs had hydraulics, it was standard equipment.

The A & B block part number was only 4-5 number digets.

All Farmall C, and SA up to serial number 310000 shared the same block part number. I suspect you or George are correct on that number, as I know they started with 2.

Super A after 310000 and all SC had block part number 354898 R1. By the time it gets to the end of 100 - 200 production the number is 354898 R3.

The 130 used block part number 366204 R1, and that would have been the first of the engines with that number. Yes it could show up as a replacment block for a SC, either as R1, R2 or R3.

Jack,

ALL Cs had hydraulics, or at least the capability to have hydraulics. So, the pump hole will be there on the block.

An A/B block will not have the pump hole.

Jack, that may be. You are right about the hydraulics. I have a 113 block from a hay baler and it does not have the hydraulic opening on it. That may depend on when it was cast. I don't know about the combines. I also don't know why there is a one number difference in the numbers. You said yours was 251068R1 and all of mine are 251069R1

Maybe I misread the casting number, I'll have to check it again and this time really line up the bifocals! Anyway it sounds like a C block.

Thanks

Jack

I think I am going to have to have bifocals before long or quit reading. I have worn glasses since I was 6 years old for near sightedness, but have recently began to have trouble reading.

George, bifocals make a world of difference, might take a few weeks to get used to them but worth it.

Jack
