Hey guys the 300 won't suck up the gas to the pistons..... Took the carb off put the standard rebuild kit in and it still floods the carb and the plugs are dry..... .Took carb off again and held a rag with ether on it uder the intake turned the key and it started..... Did it with gas the same way and it started..... .Now what is the freaking problem?????Thanks for any answers..... ..Scott

Was the manifold new or the original? We had a 300 comein and it was in and out of the shop for about 3 weeks. Would run good and just up and quit breathing. Pull start it, or shoot eitherin it for a few minutes, and it would eventually kick back off and run for a while, and do it again maybe 3-4 hrs later. Found the intake manifold was cracked. Had to sand blast it to find the crack, but it was a tiny hairline fracture along the back side of the manifold. when it was cold, it would seal up, soon as it warmed up it would flex and leak. Flood the carb, still had a little vacuum, but not enough to draw it to the valves, but enough to draw hard enough on the carb to pull it right up to the place where it leaked. This thing had been like this since 1972 the guy said,,,,, and its been a everyday runner ever since. If its not that, maybe check the carb, valve lash, or the governor, make sure the butterfly is working with the linkage. Since thelast time I talked with you, we picked up a real nice 350, fast hitch. Hope this helps, Chad

Probably just a plugged carb. Just putting a kit in them does not always un-plug a passage. You got suction but no gas from the carb--stay with the simple first.

That will happen over night? Plugging up..... .Yes good suction will start with carb of the tractor..... .What does atomizing the gas mean? Making into a vapor? And how does the carb do that....All the little ports????Thanks Scott

I totally agree with what old said. It is either an intake leak, or a lack of valves sealing, or rings sealing enough against the cylinder walls to create enough suction. I had a Super A that was half worn out and if it sat for a month I had to squirt a little gas (or oil, which temporarily boosted compression) into the plug holes to get it to suck enough to draw the fuel/air mix up from the carb. Otherwise, I would choke it and gas would drip from the carb but not get up to the cylinders. Once I got it started that way, it would start fine from then on, as long as I ran it once a week or more often. mike

Well now... the rest of the details come out. Don't know what to suggest now that all the facts have been revealed. How about: "Try squirting some gas into each cylinder anyway." mike

Do you have a good sucktion on the air intake part of the carb? In other words if you hold your hand on the carb where the air clean hose hooks up does it try to suck your hand in?? If not then you have a bad gasket or manifold. If t does then the gas isn't makeing it through the carb as it should and the main jet maybe clogged still
