I have some steel wheeled tractors that I have made 1/4"x 4" steel road bands for and I want to put either rubber belting material or old tire tread on. Anybody put the old tire tread on and are some tires better than others to put on and how do you cut them and attach them. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I did it on a Regular.

I took an old H tire that I had. Cut the sidewalls off with a chain saw. Then cut the tire into two half moon pieces. Then split the half moons on a table saw. Then set the rip fence and made sure they were all the same width. And if you pay attention, it works out that you have tread atterns that go in the right direction and match. To fasten them to the rim, I used some liquid nails and lots and lots of C clamps to hold it in place. Then I drilled, I think, 1/4 inch holes for carrage bolts. Put carrage bolts in (2) side by side about ever foot around the rim. All in all, turned out to be a pretty neat job. I have posted pictures on here several months ago.

For the fronts, thick Rubber that I had (1/2 inch thick) and glued and attached again with carriage bolts.

If you cannot find the pictures, let me know and I will go take some more and send to you and see if this is what you want to do.
