I'm trying to remove the belly pump on my 48 M to fix a leaking seal. I removed 4 bolts and all the plumbing, everything is loose but will not drop out. Any advice? Does the coupling hold it in? Is the shaft seal an easy fix? Thanks in advance.

If you are doing this all on your own perhaps a few pieces of althread are the best investments to keep your toes in proper position and unbroken. Replace all the bolts with a piece of althread and hold the pump in with a nut and once replaced work each corner down 10 turns at a time until you get her where you can manage her. She's a heavy old girl and if you aren't careful she'll hurt yah, and possibly hurt yah bad. Be careful.

Both are right hand threads.

You are correct. If the pump were left hand it would unscrew under load.

On the M the coupling is not removeable like it is aon the H. Line up the front (pump side) side of the coupler so the slot is verticle and the pump will be able to slide down.

When reinstalling, coat the back side of the coupler with grease to hold it in place while reinstalling the pump. Put a little on the front side also for lubrication.

The seal is replaceable after removing the drive flange. Right hand thread on the transmission shaft, left hand thread on the pump.

The coupler that drives the pump is refered to as a cross and has to be turned right so that the pump cann drop down. You will see what I mean whe you get the pump out. I also has to be turned right to get the pump back in.As nearly every one has stated do be careful.

have seen special tools to install/remove belly pump. Tee shaped shaft with key welded on. engages in hole at bottom of pump with keyway, 1 on each side. 2 men can raise/lower pump & keep it from tipping. hope this helps some one. LR

pt a couple of the lower bolts back in a ways, then with everything in neutral and the wheels blocked, you and rotate the coupling till the keyway points up and down. best to have a helper at this point. get a floor jack under the pump, remove the last two bolts, have a guy on each side of teh tractor and lower it down. its heavy and hard to hold on too.

Actuator lever and shaft, fill cap, drive coupling, three out pipes and the bolts.
