Ehhh...What was that I heard?

(sounds of a Farmall H following me home) ....

So if that rumor is true...What books do I need to get started? The hydraulics don't work too well, but it runs pretty good.

I have some mechanical sense, but not a lot of experience. And none of that with Farmalls. (yet!)

Thanks for your replies!

Nathaniel

Our new 4H project this year is a 1948 H. Just picked up the manuals for it today from the local Dealer.
A service manual for the chassis ,service manual for the hydraulics, operators manual. and the parts guys printed off the parts mamual from a CD for us. it costs $50.00 bucks for all of them a good investment. The kids started working on the tractor this week and have fun and learning some new things.I will try and post some pictures soon.

Been there, printed some good concise information.

Funny thing, though, my wife wasn"t so thrilled when I showed her the page titled "Dating your H". ;->

I'm just getting started as well. I have yet to get my books, but when I do, these are the 3 that were suggested to me as the most important:

1004203 Operators manual.
TC-27E Parts Catalog.
GSS-5032 Service manual, engine and chassis.

I'd add an I&T manual to that list. They have a little different perspective and sometimes fill in the gaps of the IH stuff.

If you have any mechanical sense, you'll like the H.

Amen to the pocketbook! An H is a really good tractor though.Wish I"d have kept mine, the best starting tractor in the winter I ever had.Good thing is that parts are really easy to get.Sold mine years ago and bought a brand "C".Good machine but some parts were about impossible to find.Got smart and sold it.Now have a 350D Farmall.Someday gonna buy another H(grew up on them).

How do you like that 350 diesel? I have a 57 diesel and I love it. I bought it from the original owner. It is the easiest tractor on fuel I have ever used other than a Cub. I use mine for all kinds of stuff. Plowing, harrowing mowing hay, setting and cultivating tobacco. I wouldn't mind to have another one or three. I to have an H, but that live power and hydraulics along with fast hitch is great. Lots of folks talk about parts being hard to get, but I have had no trouble other than paying for them.

Biggest book left off your list is a full pocketbook.
