I have a 1941 MD that gets water in the oil. We just had the head planed and installed a new head gasket with it. There's no evidence of any cracks in the head or in the block. The cylinder head was also pressure tested. I've heard that some M engines have a freeze plug in the front of the engine behind the timing cover and it eventually rusts out. Do any of the MD blocks also have this freeze plug? I don't have a block serial number, but any info or insight into the problem is very helpful. Just for the record, she runs great!

2 in front behind steel plate that is between front cover and block. 2 in rear also but they will leak to outside of engine. Later ones are bronze, if original yours would be regular metal block plugs.

The U R L below will take you to parts diagrams, follow the directions (there appears to be no core plugs in that area at all. JimN

Hi. I just tried to copy and paste that web site and it won't go thru. I'd really like to see that site, cause I'm getting ready to do a head gasket on a MD. Thanks, Doug

Go to W W W.CaseIH.com
Choose a language (hover over them)
Select Begin your Search for Parts right herebottom of screen)
on that page enter your tractor (Farmall M) in your case.
Then Select Farmall MD
Then select the area/system you wish to view.
And there it is. JimN
