I have purchased an Super AV tractor. It runs just great after a little tlc. It has set for a number of years though. Question is: When I run it down the field oil spurts up through the gear shift to a point where I become lubricated. I found a drain plug near the back under the PTO. The amount of oil that came out was about a cup or 2 at the most. Is there another drain plug? Looks like 2 fill plugs on top. One ahead of the gear shift and one near the belt pulley. I was hoping it might have been water in the transmission and had frozen. No luck there.

Thanks Richard

...the Owner's Manual. Get one and read it, cover to cover.

The collective knowledge on this board is greater than that in the Owner's Manual. And it is free.

Even so, there is NO SUBSTITUTE for reading and understanding the Owner's Manual, if you want a trouble-free tractor.

And who doesn't?

It sounds like your transmission is over full of oil. It should only have about 5 quarts total in there. Take the fill plug out that is near the gear shift lever. If you see oil in there, it is too full. You should only see gears, etc and the oil level should be below them where you can't see it. The drain at the belt pulley is just for that chamber. It will not drain the transmission. The transmission drain should be on the right hand side, bottom rear of the transmission case. That is just in front of the bottom of PTO case assembly which is below the belt pulley. There is a level plug on the left hand side, front of the transmission. On the Super A, it is behind the brake rod on that side and you have to take the pin out of the rod clevis to get to it. Oil should only be up to that level hole. I'm not sure of the brake rod arrangement on the AV. It may be different than the Super A, but I think it would be the same.
