Me and Hugh Mackay, as well as a number of other A, Super A, 100, 130 and 140 owners are big time lovers of Farmall's enduring offset series. It has been stated that something like 1400 Super A1 tractors were built in 1954 in the transition period between Super A and the 100. As a teenager I remember driving an A1 during the mid-1960s for a farmer during tobacco harvesting season. I continually scan the photo ads on this site and have yet to see an A1 for sale. The same is true for Ebay. Anyone here on this board own a Super A1?

Andy: Could you post that photo in tractor photos. I think a lot of these guys should see the difference between SA and SA1. I don't like posting this photo I have as it is not my tractor and was sent to me. To me that is a trust I keep.

What made the A1 differant from a regular Super A?

I made my way to my cousins and got the serial number off an old tractor he had and come to find out it is a AI (eye). Has the diamond axle and a foot throttle thats kind of neet. Its a piece of junk tho he has used for parts over the years. Wouldnt mind having the front axle cause mine has been welded on right hand side where the two parts meet. I went to a tractor show Friday and saw two Super A's and both of them had been welded too. I guess the lighter weight on that side made it bounce more and wear out faster? I have seen 140's with the same problem.

Randy: The Farmall Super A1 all fall between serial number 356001 and number 357958, only 1,957 were ever built. The entire power train is Farmall 100, including C-123 engine, water pump, larger radiator, improved brakes and hydraulics. I believe the brake and hydraulic upgrades actually occured at the beginning of 1954. The sheet metal is Farmall Super A with an extension in the grill for the higher radiator.

I believe in one of my books that it says only 1 Farmall Super A1 was built in 54.

IHC Farmall: There were indeed 1,957 Farmall Super A1 biult in 1954. They start at serial number 356001 and end at serial number 357958. There could well have only been one Super IA, there is a difference. More than likely there was only one Super IA1

Farmall Super IA stands for Super A Industrial and Super A1 stands for those last 1,957 Super A that were built to Farmall 100 specs using Super A sheet metal. A Super IA1 would be a Super A1 Industrial.

Bill: Actually there were 1,957 Super A1 tractors built, but then if one considers these offsets were only built at Louisville for world wide sales, that spreads them quite thin around the world. I've e mailed with folks from Australia, New Zeland, Holland, France, Great Britian, Finland and Sweeden with offset tractors. I'd almost be willing to bet there are offsets in Central and South America.

Then if you consider the short production run of the SA1, factor in Canada and USA appetite for the newest model, at that time the 100, then it's quite possible most of those SA1 got shipped offshore.

I have never seen a Super A1, and have been keeping a close watch for one for a lot of years. I do have a photo of a completely restored Super A1, some kind person in the US south east e mailed to me. Just forget the exact state, however he was at a show. I'm thinking RPRU the last time it was in PA.
