I have just put a live pump on my H. I have broken the cam gear now and am guessing it is because the pump came to a dead stop when i was running my blade down pushing snow(just a guess).
Does anyone know what the pressure should be set to on the relief on the hydraulic valve or any other reasons the gear would have broken.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

You must have the relief valve too high we ran live pumps on two Ms for many years and never busted a cam gear. Lifted wagons,2MHD CORN PICKER,combine ,loader.wheel disc, plows.

If you check the length of the bolts. You will find out that one of the bolts was bottomed out against the cam gear. I know because I broke a cam gear.

Brett if you added the live Hyds to the H and did not replace the cam gear with a hardened one then that was the problem not the pressure on the pump. All H,s made prior to 1952 did not have hardened cam gears and must be replaced to run live hyds or you will see the same problem sooner or latter from the constant pressure of the pump. The cam gears that are on the older ones just had to run the distributor drive that had no pressure on them.

re4tired is right, 1000 psi should be more than enough to lift anything your H can handle.

And to all the naysayers of my belt drive hydraulics - my belt doesn't break cam gears! :o)

I would recommend a 1000lb max.for pressure, that will lift any implement designed for your tractor
