Does anyone know if there is a special prefix or suffix for the High crop. The tractor we are looking at has a 5***DS serial number on it. I know what DS means, but still think it would have the cotton picker suffix of F,G or T on it if it was a cotton picker. My book doesn't show any suffix or prefix for the High Crop. Thanks

If it was a true high crop the serial tag should say 450 HC on the model line not serial line.

Why the mystery? Just look at the drop boxes on the axles. You should be able to tell the difference between a gear drive box and a roller chain box. The roller chain is the high crop.

Any M or H thru 560 parts book will have pictures of both. If you don't have any one of those parts books, pull an oil level plug and stick your finger in or shine a pen light.

More than likely it is a cotton picker because it has a single front wheel and bolster; doesn't it?

I didn't realize the drops were different. The only one of either I have seen is an H cotton picker, that was converted to farm tractor. There are a few high crop offsets around here, but none of the bigger ones that I know of. The single front wheel was leading me towards a cotton picker, but I don't know enough about either to identify one from the other. How do I know the chain drive box from a gear drive?
