I have been told today that some one near here has 1 of only 2 in the country, Farmall MD's made in 1954. I dont think I have ever heard that there were 2 of a it's kind, rare 1954 Farmall MD's. Is this a fact or is some one blowing smoke up my father in laws hind end? Wasnt the only (M) made in '54 the Super M/TA.???

Who ever told you that only 2 are known to be 54 is FULL of it. I just got a Farmall SMTA Diesel that is a 54 all around. I also had an MD.

Hey Dave, I just sold a 1954 Super MD to a gentlelmen in Min, S# 52147J. The Way to tell if it is a 54 besides the S#, is the front grill. The holes in the front like the MTAs [BIG HOLES] were never punch out. I put a picture on the tractor photos site 2 months ago. Stew

Serial numbers of Super M's made in 1954 were 51977 through 52627, or 650 produced before SMTA production began. Calculations made from Guy Fay's data book indicate that about 12% of the Super M production were diesels. Assuming that the same percentage each year were diesels, there would have been 78. But, I do not know. Two is likely wrong, though.
