JimN,This was your response to my former post. Thank all of you for taking time to repond."Rusty and Tom are very correct. I would put a candy thermometer in the radiator and warm it up. If the temp gets near 205, I would look at the cooling system to get it clean. A flush and rinse with a good flush product. If the real thermometer stays in the 160 to 180 range, that should be the mid range of the run area. Do not get it as hot as the top of run and then remove the cap, you will be scalded. Good luck, JimN" I did exactly as you suggested. The candy thermometer did not get above 165 when the guage was at the high end of the "run" section. Would you suspect the guage at this point. It is the proper one according to the year (1947).

Sounds like you got a bad guage. Contact whomever you bought it from, and have them exchange it for a good one.
