Recently bought a Farmall B from my neighbor and trying to find out what year it is. Original seat has been replaced so I have no SN. Casting # is 8638 DE. Will an A floor board and an A brake unit fit on a B?Thanks for any help, Pokey

There are casting #s on transmission and engine block along with a setial# underneath #1 spark plug. The brake pedal for the left brake is the same but the shaft it mounts on is different from the A.

The brakes will fit. The A floorboard will be 4" to short. An A and BN are the same width.

Engine and chassis serials matched through 201000 -- provided that it has the original engine. Engine serial is stamped below the #1 spark plug.

The B was basically just a widened A - I would think the brake parts would interchange, but I don't know about the floorboard. On the year: there is a casting date on the lower right engine block by where the steering goes into the front bolster - if you can, find the number and report back, then I (if nobody else) can tell you when the engine block was cast. That should give you a fair idea of what the year is.

The floor board is different, but will work if the corner is cut off. I have a BN and replaced floorboard on it from an A. Had to cut corner off it to fit area. Just match it up to your old one and you'll see difference.

A B floorboard is 4 inches wider than one from an A or BN
