This tractor needs a piston and sleeve kit and I would like it to have more power. Could i make it into a Super A or C? Also would the stepped head pistons that this site sells work. Its a 1945.

I have a 1945 A and it has the flat top pistons, and 3 1/8" bore. Am I correct that I can install the high compression pistons in this engine without modification?

tyler: I fail to see what difference this will make as A, B, C and SA all had 3" pistons. If your talking Super A1, Super C, 100, 200, 130, 140, 230 and 240 they all had 3-1/8" pistons. Some of those will fit in your A but not all will. It also could be bored to make some of the others fit.

In other words if this is an A you don't know the history on then actual measurement of sleeve inside and out is the only way to be sure.

There is no way to turn an A into a Super A or a C.

You can, however put oversized pistons in it. Standard for an A is 3 inch diameter, and upgrade to 3-1/8 is an easy change. This raises the displacement from 113 to 123, which is the same as a Super C from the factory. High compression pistons will give a couple more horsepower too.

I have a B that I put oversized, high compression pistons in and it dynoed at 24 horsepower.

It's a matter of buying & replacing the pistons and sleeves together, no special machining should be required.

If it has the original block C113 without a opening for the hydraulic pump, it is possible to use 3-1/8 pistons/sleeves to make it 123 CuIn. Be sure the sleeves have the same spiggot OD as the block (lower outer sleeve diameter. Domed pistons will also work well. JimN
