measure your blade heights on a concrete or blacktop level surface. measure outer tip heights side to side and front to rear. side measurements should be the same for each side of the deck. front to rear measurements, rear should be around 3/8 to 1/2 inch higher than the front. the front gauge wheels should have shims to adjust front and side to side heights. rear attachment points set the rear height. if you want a handy dandy measuring tool, zoom over to your john deere lawn equipmen dealer and pick up this measuring tool, about 15.00 or so. real handy for setting deck heights.

I have one of those and it is really handy, even if it is John Deere. However, I wish it was a bit more substantial. For $15, you would think they could use something besides flimsy plastic. Don't drop anything on it!!!

If it is hanging with two chains, like they do on a super A/140, then probably a chain has slipped a link or two in the retainer - which means you need to lower the mower onto a block of wood and adjust the chain on one side. mike
