How were you able to get the block and pin off? I have a 966 that I am working on and am stuck. I tried putting a wrench on the other end of the rod and unscrewing it but it turns a couple turns and then is solid as a rock again... Any help would be appreciated!!

When the ball joint type end is used to replace the block and pin style, you also need to replace the cylinder tube. The trunnions are located closer to the left end of the tube used with the ball type joint.

When you replace the block and pin with the tierod type you have to disassemble the steering cylinder and assemble it with the rod the other direction. Because the ball type end is longer it changes the demensions between the cylinder rod and the mounts on the cylinder housing.

from looking at the parts diagram, if your adaptation of the ball end resulted in a change in the length of the cylinder, that is probably the issue. The component needs to be the exact length of the original pivot. JimN

Where that ball screws on the end of the ram you can adjust it there. You have to "center" the cylinder.

To turn sharper to the right you would have to screw it on to the ram farther.

But doing this it will turn less to the left.

Is it going to the stops now when you turn to the left?

Forgot to mention if the cylinder is already centered then you need to adjust both tie rods.
