Were their two different heights of fenders available for these tractors? I've seen them where they are even with the hood and some pictures where they look about a foot higher. Theirs a 686 on e-bay right now that looks like it has the high ones. That must be a pain to crane your neck all day looking over those. Why were some built that way?

According to the book I have for the 656...they were adjustable for different size tires...the bigger, taller the tire...the higher the fender setting.

That explains alot. I am going to look at a 686 on friday and was hoping it didn't have those high fenders.

The flat-tops I had and the ones on our 544 have a couple different settings for height - extra bolt holes from the mount brackets to the fenders themselves.... so I would assume they were all adjustable height.
